CVE-2024-42237

MEDIUM
5.5
CVSS v3
NVD

Description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: cs_dsp: Validate payload length before processing block Move the payload length check in cs_dsp_load() and cs_dsp_coeff_load() to be done before the block is processed. The check that the length of a block payload does not exceed the number of remaining bytes in the firwmware file buffer was being done near the end of the loop iteration. However, some code before that check used the length field without validating it.

Common questions

How do I fix CVE-2024-42237?

Published advisories record a fix for 252 affected products. The "How to fix" section on this page lists the fixed version and source advisory for each one, so apply the entry matching what you actually run.

Is CVE-2024-42237 being actively exploited?

Not that we know of. CVE-2024-42237 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 0.21% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 12% of all scored CVEs.

How severe is CVE-2024-42237?

CVE-2024-42237 has a CVSS v3 base score of 5.5, rated medium. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.

What does CVE-2024-42237 affect?

Published advisories record a fix for linux (Debian), bpftool (Red Hat / RHEL), bpftool (Rocky), bpftool-debuginfo (Red Hat / RHEL), and 248 more. Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
